Dear Sir,
Only eight months since the Town & County Elections and the pages of the Newton News are again awash with Politics!
Four letters deriding the attempts of the Lib Dems to save us residents some money, personally I would be very glad of it as I’m struggling to even put the heating on at present. I think the Lib Dems are a breath of fresh air and the recent by-election results confirm that other people are certainly happy to give them their chance, with two more elected in the Horndale/Byerley Park ward.
Do we really care what these people think? Jed Hillary, who barely scraped onto GATC in May 21, coming in a distant third with less than half the votes of Jo Jones, the Lib Dem, who does so much for the town with her family disco’s, litter picks and Santa related activities; Simon Hocking was trounced by Community Champion Nev Jones in Neville Ward and also beaten by Andrew Hill in the recent Simpasture by-election – clearly a man who nobody wants to represent them; Vince Crosby, now retired from GATC, who is trying to convince us that services like the Fireworks or Santa Tours will be axed, when he knows perfectly well that they never will be – scaremongering at it’s very best.
Finally, Arun Chandran, elected with the least number of votes in his GATC Ward, the leader of the Independant Group who rely on the Lib Dems to get their policies passed at GATC. I imagine there will be some choice words at their next meeting.
I wonder if Councillor Stead will ask to borrow Councillor Chandran’s crystal ball as there is absolutely no truth in his statement that DCC have agreed a 1.99% Council Tax rise and does he honestly expect us to believe that sending out thirty lots of council meeting papers by 1st class post is £10,000 cheaper than emailing it, now who’s taking residents for credulous dimwits?
Clearly these people don’t actually speak for the majority of the electorate and should stop thinking they do.
