This year’s Christian Aid collection was looking very unsure, due to the beginning of Covid in 2020 where no collection was held, until The Churches Together In Great Aycliffe decided we must try and do something, however small. We contacted Shirley, the Tesco Champion organiser, and she agreed that we could put a bucket in the store for a weekend in June. Then I phoned our CTGA members to ask for their agreement in placing a bucket in their churches on our town. Thanks go to St. Mary’s, St. Andrew’s (Aycliffe Village) St. Clare’s, The Neville Methodist Church and The New Generation Church, for their agreement. Also most of our Care Homes in the town agreed to have a collection box within their entrance hall, which was also greatly appreciated.
This took more time than our usual couple of days in Tesco to organise, but eventually it happened.
One day in June, Margaret Lee. Gwen Morrison and myself, from CTGA, counted the amounts raised, there were a couple of collections buckets still out, due to some churches not meeting as often as they usually did with the Covid situation.
It is with immense pleasure that we announce that just over £400 was raised during this time. This was a fantastic achievement, and our grateful thanks go to all who helped raise this amount for many countries overseas who are in such need, not just for weeks or months, but whose needs go on endlessly.
THANK YOU so much for your continued generosity in thinking of others in desperate need. This money will certainly help out, maybe in small ways, but in ways that mean so much for those who really need it so badly.
God bless you all.
