On Saturday 1st June the sun shone and nearly 200 people joined us at Greenfield Arts for our free family fun day, the culmination of the “Out of the Bag” project.
Families enjoyed tasty food demos, face painting, an art treasure hunt, a chance to illustrate the gallery walls, making happiness bags, printmaking and making recycled sculptures as well as a fantastic live aerial dance performance by the “Baretoed” company.
Families also received a free bag of art materials and an inspiration booklet, with ideas on how to continue to be creative at home after their experience on the day. All those who came had a great day, enjoying the opportunity to be creative, learn new ideas and spend time together as a family.
The project has been a success in allowing people in the community to experience the opportunities available at community centres and in supporting those centres in reaching new audiences.
“Out of the Bag” was funded by GAMP Area Action Partnership, with three local community centres working in partnership to inspire families to be more creative and work together, as well as seeing the fantastic opportunities available to them in their community. Agnew Community Centre, Woodham Community Centre and Greenfield Arts would like to thank everyone who helped make this project such a success: the families who attended the sessions and those who attended the fun day, the fantastic artists and facilitators who delivered the activities, and all the partners who helped promote the project. We are keen to develop more creative opportunities for families so watch out for some coming up this summer.
