Busy as usual for myself and Tara but everyone’s support makes a big difference to the way the rescue functions and we are very grateful. Firstly, the mother and babies we took in last week are thriving with mum with them all the time, we can confirm we have three girls and a boy all over 100g, about the size of a plum, now their eyes aren’t open yet but that is imminent, they will be able to hear very soon too. Freddie is recovering nicely and adapting to three legs, also we will be releasing some back into their gardens in the next few days.
Tara and I would like to also mention that if you find a hedgehog in trouble, please ring us, but forgive us if we don’t answer you straight away, we take pride in caring for so many prickly pals really seriously, but work from home voluntarily, 24 hours a day all year round, our poorly hedgehogs share our homes and we still run our homes with the support of our husbands and children. All we ask is if you see a hedgehog in trouble, pick him or her up and get it out of danger, a high sided box with something like a towel for a hiding place with food and water. Nests will be in your hedgerows, under sheds and decking, please be careful, mums and babies are very delicate, no power tools should be used before checking and check with your hands, not broom handles please.

June and Val are still knitting and sewing some lovely stuffed animals for us to sell, rabbits, penguins, etc, with sweets inside which will all contribute to our hedgehogs health and wellbeing, thank you.
Tip Of The Week: It’s baby season and the females will either be finding and building nests for their hoglets, they will sometimes come out during the day, if you see one and you think she is in danger, pick her up, get her away from the danger, then seek advice from The British Hedgehog Preservation Society who can be contacted on 01584 890801 or alternatively Hedgehog Street App or a vet.
