Dear Sir,
I would like to reply to the letter by Alastair Welsh which was full of inaccuracies, in last week’s Newton News, 5th February, although many people say don’t bother, nobody takes any notice of him. Brexit was delivered on a lie, but only time will tell, we are where we are.
Let’s move on to the next issue, the election of Independents in my ward of Byerley Park, Horndale and Cobblers Hall. We have two Independent Councillors who live in the Aycliffe West Ward and have done nothing in this ward and don’t show their face or even come to events in the ward. One of them is a self-certified Covid-19 denier, the other is only an Independent due to the fact that she stood against an official Labour Candidate who had served on the late Sedgefield Borough Council and Durham County Council as a Labour Councillor.
Mr Welsh is to my mind an out and out Tory, but in fact, to me he is right wing and yet Tory Ministers have signed off a £340,000 payment to a civil servant who blew the whistle on the Home Secretary Priti Patel, in the bullying scandal to save the embarrassment of an employment tribunal.
Now we find that £37 billion has been paid to the ministers ‘mates’ for a failed track and trace system, yet can only offer £3.50 weekly to pay for our heroic nurses during the Covid Pandemic, it comes as no surprise to me.
Now who is wasting tax payers money?
I could never understand why Mr Welsh, a regular correspondent in the Newton News, has never stood for the Council – so I would conclude with, put up or shut up.
Vince Crosby
