Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st Team

The first team suffered a big defeat away at Blackhall 1st XI in their penultimate game of the season in the NYSD 2nd division.
Electing to bowl first may have proved costly for Aycliffe as the home side scored an impressive 186 all out after 48.1 overs. Michael Howe (sponsored by Bob and Yvonne Wood) was the pick of the bowlers, taking a superb 5 for 45 and he was supported well by George Slatcher (3 for 45) and Matty Greaves (1 for 25).
In reply Aycliffe were dismissed for a very poor 73 after only 22.3 overs. All rounder Michael Howe top scored with 21 from 19 balls, and the only other batsmen to reach double figures for the visitors were Sam Telford (20 runs) and Adam Randall (14 runs). Aycliffe’s first team play their final game of this unique season at home to Darlington 2nd XI on Saturday 19th September with a 12.00pm start.
Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 2nd Team
The second team put in a very brave performance and failed by just 17 runs to reach their victory target at home to second in the table Maltby 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division. The visitors chose to bat first and scored a very commanding 189 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs. Joe Haines bowled well, taking a seasonal best 4 for 25 and Joe Teasdale (sponsored by John Flinn Physiotherapy) and Thomas Dearden chipped in with 2 for 37 and 1 for 39 respectively.
In reply Aycliffe batted really well to come close to chasing such a big total and were eventually bowled out for a very respectable 173 after 37.5 overs. Opener Joe Teasdale top scored with his season’s best score of 39 from 59 balls faced and his innings included one boundary and three huge sixes. Other notable contributions came from Owen Smith (23 runs from 22 balls), Matty French (19 runs from 39 balls), Joe Haines (17 runs from 11 balls) and Charlie Cayless (14 runs from 18 balls).
The second team visit Preston in their final game of the season on Saturday 19th September and stumps are pitched at 1.30pm.
