Newton Aycliffe Youth FC continue to offer adult football, after the players complete their time in youth football. This is an important section of the football club, which ensures that everyone can continue playing football. Many of these male and female players started playing for the club at under 7 and have wlecomed the opportunity to stay within the club. The under 23’s is the stepping stone for many players into Northern League sides, bridging the gap from youth football to adult football. The women’s team are in the Durham Development League as part of the national womens game pyramid. As we have 9 youth girls teams, the future for our women progressing up the pyramid looks very bright.
Newton Aycliffe Women 0 v 6 Billingham Synthonia
The women came up against a strong, well drilled Billingham today. They knew they were in for a tough game after already facing Billingham 2 weeks earlier in a friendly, drawing 2-2. The game got underway with Billingham having the better of the possession but couldn’t break Aycliffe down. Midway through the first half a challenge in the Aycliffe box was deemed by the ref to be late, penalty was the decision and tucked away to take the league. Aycliffe now started to get a foot hold in the game and a perfect through ball matched by a perfect run by Naomi ended with a 1 v 1 with the keeper, she struck it well but somehow the keeper, kept it out. In the final minutes of the second half a corner for Billingham was took short catching Aycliffe out a strike from the edge of the box found its way into the top corner, 0-2 half time.
Second half was much of the same, Aycliffe lost a few players to injury but everyone gave their all. Billingham finished the game off with 4 more goals, mainly coming from Aycliffe mistakes, 0-6 final score. The score line doesn’t reflect how the game went, there was lots of effort today from the women but we now need to turn that effort into chances. Lots to work on in training, but what was good to see was everyone putting in 100% to the end.
Wolsingham u23’s 2 v 2 Newton Aycliffe u23’s
Aycliffe dominated from the kick off, and the deadlock was broken when Danny Godfry found Sam Thompson in the box who finished neatly into the bottom corner, minutes later Aycliffe hit the post when Sam Thompson tried his luck from 40 yards out. Jon Hardy playing in a right wing back role was causing major problems for Wolsingham and some good balls into the box should have resulted in more goals. Just before half time Wolsingham where awarded a penalty which they put away. HT 1-1. Early in the second half Wolsingham scored and Aycliffe coaches changed to an attacking 3-4-3 formation. After Wolsingham were saved by the woodwork on a number of occasions, it was down to the final 3 minutes when Sam Thompson finished again giving the full time score 2-2.
