We are very proud of our skaters from Spectrum Roller Skating Club who took part in the international flexibility challenge with our friends over seas. Clubs in 10 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Chillie, Spain, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uraguay, Panama and Great Britain) took part uniting young people across the globe with a shared passion for roller skating. The focus was to keep skaters motivated and the theme was flexibility. The skaters had a week to collect photos and/or video of how they practice being flexible. All of the clubs involved then shared their videos.
“We have been using our time to work hard. We are focussing on our goals and preparing for the future. What an amazing opportunity for our skaters. Something they will never forget” said coach Tracy Stevens, “The project is called
Friends without borders! – Amigos sin fronteras! It has come with language barriers but with assistance from google translate we can learn together with skaters in other countries”.
Its tough when you are involved with sport and your athletes have been training so hard for competitions and unfortunately such unprecedented times occur – as a coach this is devastating. The biggest blow was when British Championships and all International Competitions were cancelled. Hopes and dreams were shattered, but after speaking to former World Champion Paola Fraschini on her zoom training, she reassured us that, its these moments that really define us in life. Its the athletes who go that extra mile when times are tough. It is the one who will not let anything stop them – even a pandemic. These moments when life is at its worst – they give you an opportunity to make a choice. Our choice at Spectrum RSC is to give skaters every opportunity we can to develop their skills and make us stronger and better as individuals and as a club.
We think this has been such an incredible time to share information about how our sport works in other nations. We are so thankful for this opportunity. You can watch the flexibility challenges on our Facebook and Instagram pages and if you are interested in roller skating in the future please get in touch.
