North East Charity Event Taken Online
During this period of lockdown, many events of all shapes and sizes have been cancelled or postponed. However, one such event will be taking place online this weekend for all to enjoy.
Throughout Saturday 9th May, the first ever Twitter Steam Rally invites people to enjoy a whole day of steam traction. Participants are invited to share photos, videos and live streams to emphasise the collaborative atmosphere of an event of this kind. Through social media, people will be able to enjoy a traditional steam rally in the safety of their own home, garden or shed. Participants have been invited to bring their own drinks and snacks where they can sit back and enjoy a wonderful hobby in these difficult times. With this being an online event people from all over the world can take part and enjoy. Mechanical Music Radio have signed up as a supporter and partner for the event and will be broadcasting the sounds of a rally online on the evening of the event, including some beer tent singing.
The event is organised by Anthony Coulls, Curator at Locomotion in Shildon whose daughter Charlotte Coulls, aged 14 who saw the events she was looking forward to attending had been cancelled and came up with the idea of holding a virtual steam rally in their place.
The steam rally will raise funds for a selection of charities including Butterwick Hospice, Young at Heart and the NHS Foundation. Alongside a JustGiving page there are also souvenirs to buy to help support these worthy causes.
