Students from Greenfield Community College have been shortlisted for the prestigious Terry Kelly Poetry Prize.
Poetry created by Year 10 students formed part of a recent project devised and led by Greenfield Arts. The group of young people involved were inspired by a recent exhibition in The Greenfield Gallery, ‘Cornish: A Man of Destiny’, as part of the Durham County wide Cornish Centenary programme. The young people worked alongside creative practitioners, Tony Gadd and Richard Bliss, to produce their own written and visual responses to the exhibition.
Katy Milne, Director of Creativity, was thrilled with the level of engagement and the thoughtful responses from the students, “It was wonderful to see the students appreciate the artwork and respond with such interesting questions that inspired the creation of their own work. This work formed part of a response exhibition, Inspired by Cornish, in our public gallery space. I’m so pleased the young peoples’ work has been shortlisted for this award, well done to them.”
Staff and students from Greenfield Community College will be invited to attend the awards celebration later in the year. This will offer the opportunity to celebrate the students work, and the work of other young people from across the North East, at The Customs House in South Shields.
