Students from Greenfield Community College got hands on as they celebrated British Science Week. Students were keen to give up their own time as part of this extended offer to explore science in new and innovative ways.
This year the theme from British Science week is ‘Our Diverse Planet’ which formed a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring entertaining and engaging events across the UK, providing a platform to stimulate and support teachers to encourage STEM activities.
Students were invited to take part in some experiments linked to the theme, they were able to learn how to identify their own diverse fingerprints, identifying different types and patterns They also explored the science of bath bombs and how these could be used as a bath-time alternative to products which retail in single use plastic bottles. Some students researched the diverse conditions on earth and even designed an Antarctic Research Station which could support human life of scientists investigating the harsh climate, learning more about science and sustainability in practical and amazing ways.
Greenfield Community College are committed to offering valuable opportunities to students as part of their extended learning programme to encourage self-led learning and enable students to achieve their full potential.
