Supporting the Environment doesn’t have to be complicated and often making small changes to boost your energy efficiency can save money. Thursday 5th March 2020 is World Energy Efficiency Day and the Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) is encouraging everyone to consider how they use energy and what small changes they can make to support the environment and their wallets!
10 years ago, the Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) began monitoring our energy consumption as part of our commitment to become more environmentally friendly, reduce waste and manage our obligations. Over that period we have seen a 43% decrease in our electric consumption! What makes this drop more remarkable is during the same period PCP has seen an increase of 46% in visitor numbers to the Centre.
If you want to follow suit; making simple changes in your own home can make a significant difference:
• Monitor utility usage;
• Swapping to energy saving light bulbs;
• Where possible use natural light;
• Switch appliances and equipment off at the plug when not in use;
• When replacing equipment opt for more energy efficient models;
• If, when our extension was built we installed renewable energy sources, which included solar panels.
Carol Gaskarth, PCP Chief Executive said: “We try to consider renewable energy sources when changing the fabric of the building including installing a ground source heat pump and solar panels but most of the things PCP have introduced were very straight-forward. Whether it is turning lights and sockets off when not in use, to having a greater focus on recycling and being more aware of what we print, we can all do our bit. We want to be an environmentally conscious organisation, contributing towards a safe and healthy environment for staff, volunteers, clients and our community. World Energy Efficiency Day is a great opportunity for us to take stock and see what more we can do.”
