A free event for residents and businesses in County Durham will take place next month to educate people about scams.
A series of talks from Durham County Council, Durham Constabulary and Friends Against Scams will offer people the opportunity to learn more about the different types of scams, how to spot them and how to support a victim.
The event will take place from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Thursday 5th March at County Hall.
Durham County Council’s trading standards team will discuss doorstep crime, specifically victimology, offenders and common practices, as well as how to help prevent and detect incidents occurring in their neighbourhoods.
And a presentation from Durham Constabulary’s cyber protect team will deliver top tips to help protect individuals from cybercrime. This will include common cyber scams such as phishing emails and messages, how to secure online accounts and ways to report cybercrime.
The National Trading Standard’s Friends Against Scams team will highlight the scale of the problem nationally and provide information on the different types of scams available and how to spot and support a victim.
Those who support or come into contact with vulnerable people, such as healthcare professionals or community organisations are encouraged to attend.
