Durham Wildlife Trust has launched a new initiative to bring people closer to wildlife in their area.
The Natural Connections group offers opportunities to take part in regular wildlife-themed activities at the Trust’s Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve near Houghton-le-Spring.
People taking part can do anything from nature walks, crafts and yoga to birdwatching, wildflower planting and wild tea making.
The group is aimed at people in the coalfield area and is perfect for those who would like to meet new people, make friends and have a go at some wildlife and nature-themed activities.
It takes place every Monday between 10am and noon and runs from this month (November) to the end of February. Attendance is free and transport can be arranged.
Participant and Durham Wildlife Trust member Linda Vickers, 75 from Hetton-le-Hole, said: “I love nature and was delighted that I could make this group. I’m enjoying learning about different aspects of nature, such as the names of trees, and the crafts are great fun.
“I enjoy meeting new people and being out in the fresh air. I feel it’s important to reconnect to nature. I would recommend coming along and trying something new. You may find a new passion in your life, new friends, and new activities.”
