On 14 June 2019 Isaac Mendelsohn, aged 11, a student in year 6 at Byerley Park Primary School travelled to Edinburgh to receive the prestigious Diana Award for his charity work.
After Isaac’s brother Jake received the Diana Award in 2017 Isaac was determined to also do something to raise money and awareness for two charities close to his heart, Brain Tumour Research Charity and Alzheimer’s. Isaac had seen his very good friend’s aunt, Anna Swabey, die from a brain tumour and also watched his grandfather, Peter Beaty, develop Alzheimer’s. He decided to do the Great North Run 4K and also a memory mile swim and he raised over £650 for the two charities. He was presented with his award at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh by Tessy Ojo, CEO of The Diana Award and Fulton McGregory, SMP. Everyone at Byerley Park Primary School and his family and friends are very proud of Isaac for this amazing achievement.
Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, The Diana Award is the most prestigious accolade a young person aged 9-25 years can receive for their social action or humanitarian work.
