Another successful meeting of the newly formed Aycliffe Business Community was held last week at the Work Place.
The topic for discussion was improving involvement of Aycliffe businesses with local schools by helping students choose a career as apprentices. The opportunities at Aycliife Business Park were numerable.
Discussion among the employers present centred around the attitude and work ethic of young people and what schools could do to prepare them for work.
A number of employers had already worked with schools and found it very useful. It was clear by opening this dialogue it would bring benefits all round.
Various training organisations were present to facilitate group discussions and Career Teacher Sarah Mcginity from Wooodham Academy brought students Eden Hancock, Joseph Cox and Jack Hodgson to participate and gain experience.
Sarah addressed the meeting and said recent initiatives by Aycliffe businesses in presenting opportunities available to young people was invaluable. “It is important each student is encouraged to find the route their future will take” said Sarah.
A local businessman said: “Young people are our future and they must engage with industry to enable them to know clearly where they can use their skills and aptitude.”
