Last Sunday a handful of runners from Aycliffe Running Club braved the cold to take part in Thirsk 10 mile road race. The first half of the race wasn’t too bad, but in the second half a really strong headwind slowed the runners down.
Floyd Jones was first home for the club and 1st O/50 in the superb time of 63m:27s and 55th overall. He was followed by Richard Campbell 129th in 68:46 and Tom Porter 134th in 68:55.
Trish Kay was suffering with hamstring and achilles problems, but kept going to finish 346th in a commendable time of 83:17.
It was the first time Yvonne Williams had raced over 10 miles, and she found the last few miles really hard, but with some encouragement from Trish Kay completed the race in the good time of 1hr:41m:15s.
The previous weekend, prolific cross-country racer Kevin Greenall was the only representative from Aycliffe R.C. competing in the British Masters Cross-Country Championships at Sunderland. Running in the 8k race for veterans up to the age of 64, Kevin ran well to finish 16th O/60 and 136th overall in 41:21.
