“Moving On Up” is a group of Newton Aycliffe mums who, in December 2012, successfully completed a Level 1 City & Guilds qualification in Personal Development, funded by GAMP. The course was developed by the mums and staff to ensure that their needs were met and it was a service-led programme and still is.
The group come from a variety of backgrounds but all have a common ground – to be the best that they can be for their children and themselves.
They are all proud of what was achieved over a 12 week period, and the group provides a marvellous support network for each other with a simple pat on the back for a job well done or to just be there with an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on is required.
Moving On Up is now undertaking a new course on an Introduction to Counselling/Listening Skills, at Bishop Auckland College in a bid to improve existing skills and assist others outside the group in future.
They are also working with the College in the hope of gaining funding for future endeavours.
A special word of thanks goes to the lady who is the driving force behind the scenes. She will not be named, but the group recognise, that without her relentless determination they wouldn’t have achieved what they had. “From all in Moving On Up words cannot express our gratitude for all that you have done and are doing to keep us ‘housed’ and educated, THANK YOU”.
The group has come to realise the need to keep together and that the world is their oyster, the door is open and we will keep ‘Moving On Up’.
