Dear Sir,
I might be taking a bit of a liberty writing to you not being a resident of Newton Aycliffe, but I have a good friend who I see on a regular basis and also read the Newton News when I can. So I have a good idea of what’s going on and I am greatly impressed.
However I am taking exception to the letter and photograph from John D. Clare (issue Friday 20th July) about his protestations about everything under the sun.
What really annoyed me was his placard “Refugees Welcome Here”. Who is Mr Clare speaking for? Himself or the whole of Newton Aycliffe? Every refugee taken in has to be fed, housed, educated, etc. Is Mr Clare prepared to do this?
Every person housed pushes people already on the housing list down one place. Further strain is added to the NHS. When one refugee arrives they are soon followed by their extended family.
I really think Mr Clare should think more about the use of the “we” and substitute the word with “me” or “I”.
