The first Aycliffe Radio live Music Festival took place on Saturday 28th July in Newton Aycliffe Town Centre.

Over 3,500 local residents attended during the course of the day to watch, dance and enjoy the acts, who all gave their time free to entertain.

The event was put together as part of the Aycliffe Festival Fortnight partly funded by Great Aycliffe Town Council and the Town Centre Management.

Aycliffe Radio organised and ran the event with superb efficiency. “Considering this was the first time presenting an event of this nature, we expected a few hiccups, but the day was absolutely fantastic” said Paul Howarth, Aycliffe Radio station manager. “We knew that our biggest issue on the day would be the weather, luckily it stayed fine most of the day, but even when it did start to rain in the evening, there was a hearty group of locals who still enjoyed the entertainment”.

Children’s entertainer Professor Nincompoop gave three performances on the afternoon, each to a packed audience.

Those in attendance had the chances of winning prizes donated by some of the shops in the town centre including vouchers, food, spectacles, Amazon Echo Dot and 4 x £30 vouchers for the children’s competition.

“The Aycliffe Radio team worked hard to bring this event to the people of Newton Aycliffe and I would like to thank all the team, the Town Council, Aycliffe Town Centre Management, the shopkeepers and most of all the artistes who entertained us. Thank you to all the residents who turned out to support the event and we hope to see you again next year” said Paul.
