Dear Sir,
The driving standard in Aycliffe over the last few years have become deplorable, no one takes any pride in the way they drive or park anymore.
Speeding by drivers on most of the main routes is increasing, such as Central Avenue, Burn Hill Way, St. Cuthberts Way, Woodham Way, Pease Way and if you are driving within the speed limit, drivers will dangerously tailgate, trying to intimate/bully you into speeding.
The use of indicators is becoming almost none existent or not being used correctly, which is also dangerous.
Parking by some is no better than their driving, I know its not illegal to park on the pavement, but it is illegal to drive on the pavement or block it. Many drivers park in such a way that parents with prams or pushchairs can’t get past, disabled people in wheelchairs or on disability scooters can’t get through and it also becomes dangerous for blind and elderly pedestrians. Also it is illegal to block a drop kerb as they are there to assist parents with prams/pushchairs and disabled people with wheelchairs/scooters get on and off the pavement.
STOP THINKING ABOUT YOURSELF & CONSIDER OTHERS
I have read a number of letters in the Newton News regarding the race track known as Pease Way. The pinch points do not slow drivers down, in fact some speed up to try and get through first, even when its not their right of way. My answer is to replace the pinch points with chicanes, as being used around Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill area, drivers have to slow down to drive through these.
