Pupils from Aycliffe Village Primary School enjoyed a spine tingling experience when local Osteopath and Ergonomist, Melanie Rowland visited the school to deliver a talk to the classes about the spine and the importance of good posture.
Melanie showed the pupils very detailed models of the spine. She explained very clearly about the anatomy and function of the spine. She then demonstrated to the pupils the correct posture for sitting at desks, using computer keyboards and game consoles.
Miss Rowland explained to the pupils that if children routinely spend many hours watching television and playing computer games, they are more likely to experience neck and back pain than those who are more active.
Pupils were advised to spend less time in front of the screens and, if they are on them, to take regular breaks in order to prevent the pain from occurring.
Should you ever require Melanie Rowland’s advice, she can be contacted at the Pioneering Care Centre, Newton Aycliffe, where her Practice is based.
