1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron Air Cadets recently held their annual presentation evening at the RAFA Club. The squadron continues to provide excellent opportunities for the cadets as was evident by the number of awards and certificates given out.
The event began with the presentation of badges for academic achievements within the Corps and nationally recognised awards such as Heartstart First Aid certificates and BTec Diplomas. These were followed by the presentation of Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
The second half of the evening saw the awarding of the squadron’s trophies for 2017 by Sector Commander, Sqn. Ldr. Gavin Houghton, and the squadron’s Commanding Officer, Flt. Lt. Karin Scott.
The recipients were:
Scott Trophy for Citizenship: Cdt Hannah Taylor.
Crabbe Trophy for Aircraft Recognition: Cpl. Kieran Newbery.
Sedgefield Veterans Trophy for Attendance: Sgt Paul Ughra.

To round off the awards three cadets were promoted to Corporal. Well done to Cpl. Houghton, Cpl. Tinkler and Cpl. Harman!
The evening was a celebration of the achievements of all the members of 1407 squadron. The range of awards on offer and the high calibre of the cadets shows why the squadron is still amongst the top squadrons in Durham/ Northumberland Wing. Flt Lt. Scott would like to thank everyone involved with the squadron for their continued support.
