In the coming weeks Durham Tigers coaches will be visiting schools in the local area to educate young people about Rugby League and try to encourage them into the game, John Simpson, the Tigers chairman, says “It’s disappointing to see that so many young people drop out of sport in their late teens. We need to encourage them to continue enjoying sport when they are this age, else they risk become distracted by their work and educational commitments and falling out of sport forever, which is a shame because sport is an integral part of their health and wellbeing.”
He also said “Rugby League is a game which can be taken up at any age by anyone. We want to provide an opportunity to people who may have read about the game or watched it on television and thought of taking it up but never have done so. Lots of people in our community are unaware that Rugby League is played so widely in the area”.
“If you are interested in joining us or would like more information” said Phil Selby, the Club’s Secretary “you can either like ‘We Are Durham Tigers’ on Facebook, call us on 07949 706546 or just turn up at Sunnydale Leisure Centre, Shildon at either: 6.30pm on Tuesday Evenings if you are interested in our open age (16+) team or at 10am on Saturday mornings if you are interested in our junior teams.”
