The P.E. Department at Greenfield Community College has been making the news for all the best reasons. There has been both outstanding individual achievements and positive recognition for sportsmanship and continued commitment.
Adam Ord has again been leading the way in middle distance running and was recently invited to attend an Open Night Event at DWSport Metro Centre where a group of north east elite ranking athletes had a question and answer session with Laura Weightman (Olympic middle distance finalist). This was a fantastic opportunity for Adam to learn more about his chosen sport and gain valuable personal insight into elite running. The evening also included a group seminar with middle distance coach David Lowes who is also a regular contributor to the renowned Athletics Weekly. Adam has been a regular in our news section recently performing brilliantly in both the English Schools and the National Championships.
Director of Sport Mrs Barbara Davis has also been thrilled with the uptake for out of school activities since September which has no doubt given a boost to the individual and team performances in all areas. Their commitment is shown as they train for events and Greenfield students can often be seen in the local area as they complete their cross-country run. A recent outing led to a member of the public coming in to the school to offer praise for their conduct. It had made her day when the student ran passed saying to each other “keep to the side” to let members of the public past.
Executive Headteacher David Priestley is delighted with the progress students are making, “It is wonderful to celebrate our sporting achievements and see recognition for the hard work of our staff and students but I am also proud to see that their consideration for others within the community has also led to such positive comments.”
Well done and keep up the good work!
