Great Aycliffe Show Revival
Dear Sir,
I write regarding refusal by the Town Council Recreation Committee for the return of Great Aycliffe Show proposed by a community group.
I want some sort of call to action for people to attend the full Council meeting on the 31st at 7.00pm at the Council offices to show support for the plan.
Let’s get together and let the councillors know that Aycliffe needs something to look forward to! As I get older it’s the nostalgic things that make me smile, plus I think it will be a good idea if people are angry enough to fight. It can only be a good thing for Aycliffe and who knows if it gets through it might actually be sunny on the day!

Councillors Call for Aycliffe Show Proposal to be Reconsidered
Dear Sir,
At the Full Council meeting next week, Cllrs Arun Chandran and Ken Robson will be moving a reference back on a Minute of the Recreation Committee concerning the Great Aycliffe Show.
We are proposing a reference back so that the Recreation Committee can reconsider its decision not to allow the Great Aycliffe show applicants to proceed further.
We believe the Recreation Committee should meet with the Organisers to discuss in public any questions, doubts, reservations, concerns it has with their proposals.
The organisers are waving their rights to privacy and it is only decency and courtesy the Recreation Committee afford them an opportunity to answer all and any questions the Officers and Councillors have. In such an open, face to face meeting, Officers and Councillors will be able to ask questions on all and every aspect of concern.
Thus it would become clear then and only then, if the proposal was workable and has merit or that it was not viable, with every doubt or question answered or not.
Without such a face to face meeting in open Committee there will always be the perception in the public’s mind as to why were they not allowed to put their case, to explain and detail any information the Council wants, in a formal but friendly meeting with the Council.
The Council has nothing to lose by doing so. Indeed it has a public duty to do so. This is not a party political matter, nor should it be.
We have no doubt all Independent Councillors will support this proposal and we call on all Labour Councillors to support this too. Otherwise the Labour Party group will need to explain to the public why they are against further open discussion on the possibility of bringing back the Show, and working to support organisations, in the public interest.
We owe it to the residents of this Town to try to make things happen especially if it serves the public and is of low cost to the Council.
Everything is possible if you just keep thinking. From the Town Council’s point of view the question should be what can we do to help.
The Full Council Meeting is on Wednesday 31st January 2018 starting at 7.15pm doors open to public at 6.45pm
Councillors Arun Chandran, Ken Robson, George Gray, Dorothy Bowman, Sandra Haigh, Irene Hewitson, Paul Symons, and Sally Symons
