Newton Aycliffe Inner Wheel Club presented £1,250 to the MRI Scanner Appeal at their monthly meeting. The money was raised from various fundraising activities.
In addition to this the club has donated high quality hand-made quilts to sell for the appeal.
A single bed quilt called ‘Hydrangea’ was donated by the family of Margaret Foster who sadly passed away earlier this year. The quilt was made as part of her City and Guilds Quilting exam as a member of Gainford Quilting group.
Another four quilts were made by members of the Threadbangers who meet on a Thursday at Redworth Village Hall. The double bed quilt named ‘Miss Daisy’ was made by Pat Camburn. A double bed quilt and a sofa throw were made by Margaret Harris.
The double bed quilt in the photo was made by Margot Harryman shown with MRI Appeal organiser Pat Chambers.
Bids are invited but it is very difficult to say how much a hand made quilt costs. As a general guide a double bed quilt sells for about £200, a single bed about £150 and a sofa throw around £100. As to time spent making them, it adds up to hundreds of hours. The quality is superb and the owner has something quite unique.
