Recently St. Joseph’s School Mini Police visited Aykley Heads control room in Durham. The children were given a guided tour of the centre and found out lots of information about what happens when people ring 999 or 101.
They receive on average 1,000 ‘101’ calls and 300 ‘999’ calls a day. The call handlers must answer a 999 call in 10 seconds and they have three minutes to despatch a unit.
“My favourite part was meeting Aaron a Road Traffic Officer who showed us how a stinger is used to stop a vehicle they are pursuing.” said Joseph.
“I enjoyed meeting Kevin Salter from the TV series Police Interceptors” said Jamie.
The Mini Police shared what they learned with other classes.
