The success of an initiative to resettle Syrian refugees in County Durham is to be discussed next week.
Members of Durham County Council’s Cabinet will hear that, to date, 92 vulnerable people fleeing violence have settled in the county thanks to the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme.
A report on the programme also states that the implementation of the scheme in County Durham has been hailed as an example of best practice by other organisations in the region.
The initiative is run by Durham Humanitarian Support Partnership, which is chaired by the council and includes representatives from clinical commissioning groups, County Durham Housing Forum, the voluntary and community sector, North East Regional Faiths Network and North East Churches Acting Together.
