A crisp, clear night enhanced the crowd’s enjoyment of this year’s Firework Display, provided and organised by Great Aycliffe Town Council.
All of the available wrist bands (just over six thousand) were given out for the annual free event, which as usual proved to be very popular with the public.
The elevated position of the Oakleaf Sports Complex, which hosted the display, meant that the fireworks could be viewed over a wide area of the parish.
The event was supported by a funfair and side stalls, plus a number of refreshment outlets, to entertain and sustain the crowd prior to the start of the display.
The display commenced with the lighting of a beacon at 7pm, followed at 7.15pm by a countdown led by the Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Wendy Hillary, and fireworks set to a musical accompaniment. The firework display ended with a spectacular crescendo, which lit up the night sky.
