An exciting week at Sugar Hill primary school started with a visit from the Lions of Zululand, who were dressed as traditional Zulu warriors and proceeded to wow the children with dances and songs from their native Africa. The Lions visited every class and taught the children some of their dance moves and the words to one of their songs, which resulted in the children joining in a rousing performance in a ‘showcase’ assembly at the end of the day. The following day, children at the school attended wearing jeans for the day, though nobody quite knew why. As part of Jeans for Genes Day, the school had entered and won a competition where the objective was to design a new pair of jeans for the cartoon character, SpongeBob SquarePants.
The whole school came together on the afternoon for an assembly, where prizes on a SpongeBob theme were to be given out to children who had provided the best competition entries. To the surprise of everyone in the hall, especially the children, SpongeBob SquarePants himself appeared to present the prizes amidst a raucous rendition of his wellknown theme tune. The children raised the roof with their singing and screaming! SpongeBob then conducted a whistle-stop tour of all the classes so that all the children could see him up close, before he had to leave to get back to his pineapple under the sea. Everyone at Sugar Hill would like to thank the Lions of Zululand and SpongeBob for making the week very exciting and hugely interesting for the children at the school.
