Students at Woodham Academy pulled out all the stops for their visit from Pudsey bear last week. The school celebrated Children In Need by organising a dress up day, a raffle for a beautiful Pudsey cake made by Chef, Linda Vipond, and a giant Pudsey bear teddy, a teachers vs students football match, a dance off and having Pudsey spend the day in school.  Students were sponsored for a range of activities including wearing onesies and pyjamas to school, a sponsored silence and two students even spent the day handcuffed to one another all in aid of the charity. Last year Children in Need raised an astonishing £37.1 Million. Each year Woodham Academy students take part in the fundraising for the charity and are proud to contribute to the total amount. This is the 10th year the school has taken part, raising a fantastic £12,000 in that time. Year 11 student ambassadors formed The Pudsey Team, alongside Children in Need veteran, Miss Mclean to ensure the smooth running of the day. The Pudsey Team also led the assembly for each year group; explaining how the North East benefits from funding received from Children in Need. Pudsey enjoyed a tour of the school, meeting fans and having his photograph taken, as well as, refereeing a football match between teachers and students at lunch time. Behaviour and Welfare Officer, Miss Mclean, said: ‘Every year all of the students get on board and make a brilliant effort to raise money for Children In Need. This year we’ve had students who have raised over £100 to come to school dressed up and another who was sponsored £50 to arrange the teachers’ football match. Well done to Aliyah Smallwood, Drew Dixon and Callum Whitfield and all our students who put in a fantastic effort this year! The latest amount raised by Woodham Academy students was £500 with more money still to be counted.
