On Thursday, 15th September year 3 pupils from St. Mary’s primary went to Beamish Agricultural Show. We travelled on a coach by J and C, and our bus driver was called Neville and he looked after us very well. When we first got there we were lucky enough to be given a drink of rosehip cordial and a home-made shortbread biscuit, which was delicious! After that we worked in groups to make a scarecrow. We all found it very tricky trying to keep the scarecrow from falling down! Then we learn
some country dancing, which was great fun. In the afternoon we saw the sheepdog at work herding geese, Rebecca got the chance to help at being a shepherd. We all stood inside the arena ring to help; we had to learn to keep very still. The school award ceremony came next and we were very lucky that we won a few prizes. Rebecca Musgrave came first prize with her vegetables; Leah Greenwell got a second prize with her flowers. In key stage 1, year 2 got a second prize for their Artwork on the seasons and Sophie Fleming came second for her handwriting. Once all the excitement was out of the way we decided to go into the town. We went inside the bakery, grocers shop and sweet shop, we even got to try some of the sweets! Our final activity was exploring the craft tent. We saw lots of amazing new things here; some of use watched a wood carver at work, some of use watched ladies spinning, while others had a go with the proggy mats. It was great fun. We were very lucky to have such glorious weather too.
