As new students arrived at Greenfield Community College on September 5th there was a buzz of excitement in the air. The new intake was met by their supportive transition mentors who put them at their ease and explained what would be happening, giving them the challenge of building on the tremendous success of the outgoing year group and aspiring to be the best. Numerous opportunities to succeed academically, to build up new skills and confidence, to participate in sport and the arts and sciences and much more were laid before them – important ingredients for becoming a truly global citizen. Students were reminded about the importance of Ofsted acclaimed Time 4 Success, where positive relationships are fostered between all year groups and which helps all students to become independent enquirers. “The Time 4 Success initiative continues to be highly successful in enhancing students’ reading and literacy skills and raising their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. There are extensive opportunities to engage in music, drama and sport, and students are
encouraged to participate in links with others schools across the world” (Ofsted). Greenfield staff believe in developing the whole child and will go the extra mile to support and challenge students so they can fulfil their potential. As a school dedicated to ‘quality teaching’ teachers constantly review their practice and strive to deliver lessons of the highest quality where “students have a clear understanding of their work and what they need to do to improve, and a purposeful and supportive atmosphere leads to high levels of concentration, participation and enthusiasm” (Ofsted) The new Year 7s endorse this.  “The teachers are really helpful”. “We love T4S, our tutor and the older students have really helped us settle in”.  “It’s a fantastic school” “I was the only person who came from my primary school but I have made lots of new friends”.   Others said “It has been great meeting new friends and experiencing lessons we have never done before”. Another commented “Maths is great at Greenfield.  It is my favourite subject”. Ofsted reports that Greenfield
students “respond positively to the school’s high expectations and are proud of the school and its orderly site”. Mr Priestley, Executive Headteacher, said “It is these high expectations, sense of pride, personal achievement and mutual respect which are the essence of Greenfield.  We are proud that our young people leave us as confident, active and responsible citizens, ready to take their place in a fastchanging world”.
