Guest locomotive Bon Accord will be in steam on Saturday September 17th & Sunday 18th.
Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon is delighted to confirm the guest locomotive line up for the Autumn Steam Gala event on Saturday September 17 and Sunday September 18, 2016. Andrew Barclay steam locomotive Bon Accord will be in steam at the event, with permission from the Deeside Railway Company Ltd. It is believed that Bon Accord is the only operational UK built tramway locomotive in the UK. The locomotive has never before left Scotland, and has not left the North East of Scotland since it was delivered in 1897. It is the fourth oldest Andrew Barclay steam locomotive in the world, and features some unusual features, including a water pump, and brackets for side lamps which would have been fitted when she was running along the tramway after dark. Guest locomotive Sir Cecil A Cochrane from the Tanfield Railway will also be in steam at the event, along with Agecroft No. 1 from the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester. Visitors to the event will also be able to see the oldest standard gauge locomotive still working in the UK, Furness Railway No. 20, in steam. Passenger steam train rides and miniature railway rides will be available for a small charge, plus there will be a host of information stands by heritage railways plus trade stands to browse. Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon is open from 10am to 5pm daily. Parking and admission are free of charge. Please note that there is a charge for steam train rides.
