The Revd Mike Dixon officiated at St. Andrews, Aycliffe Village
The War Memorial at St. Clares Church was the focus of the town’s Remembrance Day Parade, Service and two minute silence last Sunday.
The usual large crowds turned out to pay respect to those who have died for their country in wars past and present.
The Last Post, Reveille, wreath laying, prayers, poems, hymns, amid tears and thoughtful remembrance on sombre faces, provided the backdrop to this solemn 11th day of the 11th month.
Old and young dutifully marked this special day and listened intently to Rev. Julie Wing, in her address, calling on everyone to remember those who made the final sacrifice, paying the price so that we can reep the benefits.
“They laid down their lives for family, comrades and country. They brought a peace we take for granted and we owe them much” said the minister.
It was a splendid occasion, with town band playing, soldiers and ex-service men and women marching proudly with banners unfurled. It was a sincere tribute to lost heroes and those currently risking their lives fighting for peace in our world.
