Dear Sir,

Having recently been nominated as the Labour candidate for the upcoming by-election, it has been a pleasure to once again begin knocking on doors and speaking to the people of Newton Aycliffe. The issues our town faces are not unique; looming financial pressures placed upon us by an unsympathetic government leave risks for the future, services are being withdrawn and, ultimately, the people of Newton Aycliffe are suffering the consequences.

Yet, there is much to be optimistic about. The Business Park is booming. The arrival of Hitachi and its trail of supply businesses is now in full swing. If I were to be elected I would work with partners in the Business Park, Durham County Council, and the wider community to seize this opportunity to make sure everyone in Aycliffe had good reason to share this optimism with me.

As a school teacher I also recognise the talent, enthusiasm and sheer brilliance of the young people of Newton Aycliffe. It is a great credit to Newton News, in fact, that we get to see the diversity of their pursuits. As a Great Aycliffe Town Councillor I would use everything at my disposal to continue to support our young people and help them create a town to be proud of for their future.

Over the next two weeks I hope to meet with, and speak to, many more residents of the ward and continue building a positive vision for the future of Newton Aycliffe.

Yours,

Peter L Davies
