Own a mobile phone? Then the EU has saved you money. Due the UK’s membership of the EU, we all enjoy lower telephone costs.
Since 2000, the European Union has brought down the cost of a phone call by 74%. That’s money in your pocket.
The EU has also set the minimum charge for sending a text, cutting costs for consumers by 60%.
But it doesn’t stop there. Following EU intervention, last month roaming charges for holiday makers who use their mobile phones in another European country fell dramatically, and will disappear altogether by 2017.
This is just one example of the ways in which the European Union has a positive impact on our lives on a daily basis.
The EU also provides us with consumer protection. The Consumer Rights Directive, which comes from the EU, provides a 7 day “cooling off” period for people to change their minds about any purchase made by phone, mail order, or online throughout the EU.
So next time you wonder how the EU has helped you, think back to your telephone bill and consider how much more it could cost if the UK wasn’t a member of the European Union.
