Members and user groups at Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre are tucking in thanks to funding from Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP). The centre successfully received funding from GAMP to help purchase new crockery and cutlery as part of plans to improve the centre’s Beveridge Community Café.
A number of user groups are benefiting from the funding; these include the Come Eat Together initiative established by Age UK. This particular project will tackle the issue of social isolation amongst older residents by providing a ‘Monday Carvery’ luncheon club.
Vince Crosby, from Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre, said: “The funding we received from GAMP will allow the centre to develop our plans to ensure that the Beveridge Café goes from strength to strength. ’. On behalf of the centre I would like to thank GAMP for their support.”

Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre received £530 from the GAMP Community Grant Fund. The Community Grant Fund allowed local community groups to apply for grants between £250 and £750 after GAMP allocated £10,000 of its Area Budget towards the initiative.
Other groups who have benefitted from the grants include: Lifeline Community Action, The Pop in Club, Walworth School, New Pathways Together, Newton Aycliffe Youth FC, Great Aycliffe Town Council, Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group, New Friends New Places, Aycliffe Village School PTS, Greenfield Arts Centre, Aycliffe Triathlon Club, ACLE Scouts and Agnew Community Centre.
Brian Riley, GAMP Coordinator, said: ‘The success of the fund means it is now fully allocated and has proved to be of immense benefit to a wide range of local groups, who work within our community.’
GAMP is one of 14 Area Action Partnerships set up by Durham County Council.
