Sedgefield Water Polo Club hosted a tournament at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre for juniors born 1999 or later.
Sedgefield are the leading club in GB at this age group having never lost a game in over 3 years.
They have won the last 2 years at the Manchester Festival at this age group – the biggest open tournament in GB.
Last weekend they were up against Sheffield who they defeated 6-1, Rotherham who were dispatched 8-1, and Bedale 14-0,
In the Semi final Aycliffe defeated Bradford 6-1 and in the final gave a superb performance defeating Lancaster 7-0 in front of a full balcony.
Sedgefield’s impressive defence and swift counter attack was much too good for the other teams. Kristopher Egginton 11 was judged Sedgefield’s player of the tournament for a great all round display.
John Pratt and Jake Plant both 13 scored some great goals. Luke Monument 12 when called upon made some great saves in goal. Terri Millington 12 led the defence superbly. Emily Pilkington 13 showed why she is so highly rated at GB level. Connor Keeble 12 was excellent in defence and scored some great goals on the counter.
Michael Cousins 12, Michael Hampshire 10, Haydn Craggs 10, Ben Stephenson 11 and Hugh Masterson 12 all played an important part in this tremendous performance under coaches were Rudolf Reichel and Richard Cousins.
Sedgefield’s very young under 11’s had friendlies with Bedale and Lancaster and showed their potential for the future with 4 wins and one loss.
The team was Poppy Stephenson 9, Daniel Millington 9, Milo Curley 9, Bartosz Czajczynski 9, Lucy Masterson 7, Lauren Nicholson 7, Ben Aderson 7 and Jessica Webb 9 who made a superb debut in goal.
