Newton Aycliffe social group “New Friends New Places” is celebrating securing funding from Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP).
New Friends New Places was set up seven years ago by Dorothy Bowman with the help of Gloria Wills and three other ladies who wanted to start a club within their community that would encourage more likeminded ladies to get out of their homes and take part in social activities. Since the group started, its membership has flourished, with over 50 ladies now regularly attending.
The group meets every Tuesday 1.30pm until 4pm at the Navy Club. The group enjoy line dancing, quizzes, singing, talks, bingo and a wide range of outings and day trips. They also enjoy a good old cup of tea and a natter.
Funding has recently been secured through GAMP’s Community Grant Fund to help the group cover the cost of arranging day trips and activities for its members.
Dorothy Bowman from New Friends New Places, said: ‘The funding we received from GAMP will allow the club to plan future activities for our members. For some of our members the club is the only time that they get to meet other people, socialise and leave their homes. On behalf of the group I would like to thank GAMP for their support.’
