Newton Aycliffe Youth & Community Centre are working with Durham County Council to take on a long term lease of the Centre in order to keep the facility available for our community well into the future.
This means that the Association (made up of volunteers) will be responsible for all future bills and repairs for the building following the signing of the lease. This is known as Asset Transfer.
As part of the process we need to find out what services, activities and facilities residents need and how likely you are to use the centre in the future.
Asset transfer refers to the shift in management and/or ownership of buildings or land from Durham County Council to the voluntary group running the centre.
This has been going on for some time in the county, known as Community Asset Transfer. Due to funding restrictions this has now moved to other centres like Libraries, Leisure Centres and in our case the Youth Centre. For some time we have paid all utility bills, water rates and insurance for the building.
Durham Community Action has provided advice, support, and guidance to community groups across the county managing community facilities. This has helped many groups to take  ownership and management of their facilities.
