Heighington Under 13’s started off the 2015/16 campaign with the sun belting down on home soil against the unknown Skelton Utd. Heighington started off positive with an attacking formation, playing some fantastic football, one or two chances went begging but after pounding Skelton’s goal the hard work paid off, a fantastic through ball from Brassell to pick out Kilburn-Robinson who calmly smashed it home 1-0.
That was only the start, Heighington could easily have been 4-0 up but Skelton’s goalkeeper was on top form, that pressure can only be stopped for so long though, and sure enough Heighington were on the march again with an inch perfect pass from Pouton to pick out new boy Crosby who on his debut found the back of the net with ease, 2-0.
Skelton weren’t sitting back and were giving as good as they got with some pressure in Heighington’s box, where a strong challenge was put in but the referee blew his whistle “pen”, Skelton calmly slotted home, 2-1.
Heighington then took charge with Crosby slotting home again with another perfect assist from Pouton just before the break, 3-1.
Heighington started off as they did in the first half, Brassell hitting the bar from his own corner. Mitson, Pouton, Kilburn-Robinson all pounding the keeper just after the restart. Heighington then found themselves with a free kick in their own half, Bowden places the ball beyond the back line for Crosby to smash home his hat trick, 4-1.
Still more to come with some fantastic link up play between Tait and Richardson forcing a corner, Richardson picks out Mitson who finds the oncoming Dawson, calmly Dawson bags himself a goal and Heighington’s 5th, 5-1.
Skelton shell shocked but Heighington weren’t finished, Kilburn-Robinson played a fantasy ball from the middle of the park out wide to Pouton who beat 2 or 3 players in the box and drilled it home, 6-1.
Kilburn-Robinson then found himself in the box just after the restart, shot one, saved, shot 2 saved, third time lucky Kilburn-Robinson picks out the corner of the goal 7-1.
Mitson makes a perfect run and is picked out by Crosby, inch perfect for Mitson to drill home 8-1. Heighington were still knocking on the door for more goals this time from Heighington’s keeper O’Neil, quick look up to find Mitson who once again used his pace and strength to find himself one on one with the keeper, nerves held and Mitson bagged himself a second and Heighington’s 9th, 9-1 but Mitson wanted to repay the favour and slots a inch perfect ball to Kilburn-Robinson, on his hat trick he wasn’t going to miss, sure enough the net ripples with Heighington’s 10th.
Heighington’s start to the new campaign was flawless, 10-1 winners with hat tricks from Kilburn-Robinson and new boy Crosby. Everyone played to the best of their ability and the management and coaching staff couldn’t have asked any more of the team! Well done Under 13’s! Man of the Match: Luke Crosby.
Heighington Under 15’s kicked off their season, with a home fixture against Wynyard Village. On a glorious day weather wise the early on field exchanges were scrappy, and although the home team had the advantage, a number of great chances were missed. In the second half things did improve and further chances came and went, and we were left wondering if it was going to one of those days. Then with under 10minutes to go, a slide rule pass from Bailey Howarth, slipped in Adam Scott who finished well.
It got better 3 minutes later when Jamie Barr latched onto a mistake in defence and after forcing the keeper to make a save, cheekily performed an overhead kick.
The points were well and truly wrapped up with a minute to go, when a Bailey Howarth great solo run beating 4 players was finished off well. MOM was awarded to Broden Forster, for his efforts at closing down in midfield and keeping the opposition at bay. It was a tough match and a great result, but plenty of work still to be done, to be equipped to compete in Division 3.
