I hope your readers can help me. For the last eighteen months or longer I have noticed a very pleasant smell in the air.
I live in Aycliffe Village and experience this phenomenon about twice a month. The aroma is bergamot or something very similar. I assume it comes from some factory process or deodorising treatment but I would be very interested to discover the cause.

The smell you describe is no mystery to villagers and probably comes from the Sewage Works across the A167 from where you live. It is a deodorant and used to disguise the smell which periodically has to be released.
