A huge well done to Newton Aycliffe Youth Falcons Under 9’s who won the Falcons Trophy sponsored by Mr G Little. The Falcons began the pre-season friendly tournament with a 4-1 win over Aycliffe Juniors and then followed up with draws against Middleton Rangers and Darlington Spraire Lads, sending them through to the final against Middleton.
It was a very competitive final with both teams giving their all! The game ended 1-1 with the goal coming from Cole Gaskarth. Into extra-time, no-one could find the winner so it went to the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Middleton looked the more nervous of the two teams. It proved to be as the Falcons ran out 3-1 winners! Converted penalties by Cole Gaskarth, Dylan Stewart and Alex Beattie won the trophy.
Harry Bates’ fine displays in goal earned praise from the three opposing managers. Many thanks to Elaine, Deborah and Jason for all their help in making it a great day all round. Well done to all the teams who took part and in particular to referee for the tournament, Nicole Todd, who kept it together and did a great job on the pitch.
