Labour has selected one if it’s best to contest the Town Council by-election in Byerley Park, Horndale & Cobblers Hall Ward on Thursday 27th August.
Peter Bergg has previously represented this ward for twelve years on the Town Council and for eight years on Sedgefield District Council, until work commitments made it impossible to give the required time to be an effective Councillor, and he looks forward, with your help, to being able to represent you again now that he is retired.
After service in the Royal Air Force Peter gained a five subject Bachelor of Arts degree from York University which included Politics, Economics and Statistics, all of which gave him a good background for being a Councillor. Since that time when working for the County Council Peter also gained a Master of Science degree in Computer Science with distinction, a management diploma and teaching qualifications.
During his thirty seven years living on the town Peter has been involved in several of the town’s voluntary organisations and for thirty of those years was heavily involved with Greenfield School from leading the fight against the second proposed closure, being a Trustee on the committee enabling the school to become a community arts facility and being a founder member of the trust which was set up to facilitate co-operation between Greenfield, Woodham and Sunnydale Secondary schools in post 14 education. He retired from the schools Governing Body in 2013 after being Chair of Governors for many years to allow a new and forward thinking governing body to be set up for the amalgamation of Greenfield School with the Shildon Campus.
Peter was very highly respected by all sides when previously a Councillor, and Labour Leader Cllr Bob Fleming and many others are delighted at such a quality candidate being selected. Labour has clearly learnt from its past mistakes and now will only put candidates forward who meet the high standards the public would expect.

the Labour Party in the forthcoming by-election for Great Aycliffe Town Council’s Byerley Park, Horndale and Cobblers Hall Ward on 27th August. I believe I have the ability, and the integrity to once again serve the ward and the town as a whole and my excellent attendance record in the past shows my commitment. I hope that you will vote for me so that once again I will be able to fully represent you on the Town Council.”
