After representing Durham in the Miss Northeast GB final on Thursday night, Lauren Wells has secured herself a place in the Miss Great Britain finals.
As well as securing a place in the upcoming finals Lauren Wells, 19, of Lowther Drive, Woodham in Newton Aycliffe has also won a contract with North East model and casting Agency Headline Models and will ultimately become the face of the region for the next year.
On Thursday 30th July at Wynyard Hall the Miss North East final took place which showcased 40 girls from four different regions; Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham and Teesside.
The competition involved 10 girls per region competing in the final, with it coming down to only four girls being crowned as finalists and automatically being put in the running for Miss Great Britain.
After competing in three rounds: Little Black Dress, Swimwear and evening dress it was handed over to the judges to decide. Head judge Jemma Simmonds told the audience, “I’m looking for the full package with these girls, it’s about the personality and confidence of the girls as well.”
Each girl was required to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise, a national charity that helps disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. One girl from each region was awarded the Miss Charity crown for raising the most.
All together the event raised £8117 with the help from the raffle and silent auction it’s said to still be raising.
Lauren was delighted by her success and added, “I really never even imagined myself doing something like this, I do 14 hour shifts cleaning, changing, nursing and looking after other people.
One day I’m a nurse and the next day I’m strutting my stuff up and down the catwalk in beautiful dresses! I’m in absolute shock and honestly can’t believe I’ve had the privilege to do this. Excited doesn’t even fit to how I feel about competing in Miss Great Britain, I can’t wait!”
The show displayed a diverse range of beauty and personalities from all different backgrounds and experiences. Simon Robertson, organiser of Miss Northeast and Director at One Voice Productions commented on the night,
“The standard on the night was so high in all the areas, it’s the first year the competition has had the Teesside and Durham regions and it all went really well, the judges had an impossible job but they definitely got it right, Lauren did so well.
The judges had an interview with the girls before the show started so they were being scored on personalities as well. I’m very proud of the variety and diversity the show had it was fantastic.”
