Earlier this month, our local Member of Parliament, Phil Wilson, visited Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School.
Mr Wilson was invited to a special assembly, where he answered a variety questions posed by the students, prepared as a result of their recent work related to Parliament and the Government.
The visit came about because one of the pupils, 9 year old Ciaran Brayley, had written a letter to Mr Wilson, congratulating him on his recent re-election. After having a tour of the school, Mr Wilson congratulated the children on being ‘exceptionally well behaved’, and later describing them as ‘a fantastic bunch of children’. Mr Wilson was impressed with the creativity throughout the school and said ‘It was encouraging to see such a wonderful school in action.’
Children at Stephenson Way Academy were clearly inspired by Mr Wilson’s visit and his encouragement for them to work hard and follow their dreams, with one Year 5 pupil commenting ‘I’ve never thought of being an MP before, but I want to help people and communities like Mr Wilson does.’
Stephenson Way Academy is very appreciative of Mr Wilson’s inspirational visit, and have extended him an open invitation to revisit the school in the future.
