On Saturday 11th July Ripon Race Course was the popular venue for the annual NYP Black Sheep Olympic distance Triathlon. Almost 700 triathletes including six from Aycliffe Tri Club took on the 1500m open water swim, 40k bike and 10k run course.
First home was Andy Sedgwick followed by Dan Halladay. Next and first lady back was Melanie Rowland in a fantastic time of 2hrs 45min, a new course PB for Mel, with a 10 minute improvement on her time from last year.
Rob Cherrie was next home followed by Penny Johnson in 3hr 02min with Tracey Warrior making her 3rd racing appearance in as many weeks, finishing in 3hr 07min. Completing the team Andrea Jones came home in 3hrs 36min. All the athletes enjoyed the atmosphere of the day and finished off the event with a camp and BBQ.
The previous weekend saw Tracey Warrior taking part in the Haven Point Triathlon Festival. The sprint race started with a 400m pool swim followed by 20k bike and 5k run. It’s a fast and flat course along the sea front, finishing with a run along the beach. Tracey finished the race in 1hr 21min. Aycliffe Tri Club members will be out racing again at the Triology Super Sprint at Ellerton Water Park on Wednesday 22nd July.
