The call is out for gardeners of all ages, and experience, to get involved in national Big Dig Day on Saturday 21 March 2015.
Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) is inviting local residents to come along to the garden at the Pioneering Care Centre between 10am and 1pm and get stuck into some simple gardening tasks.
This free event is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbours and your work will help create a thriving garden in the heart of our community.
As well as the gardening activities, there will be free refreshments and a chance to find out about exciting future plans for the community garden which includes family and horticultural therapy activities.
Last year the garden was transformed into a hive of growing activity with thanks to participants attending a ‘Plot to Plate’ project and garden volunteers.  PCP wants to build on this success and the vision is to use the entire garden area for a variety of learning and leisure projects to bring the local community together.
There are a number of ways you can get involved:
Come along to the Big Dig, it’s a great way to take the first step to get involved in growing your own and discovering what’s available on your very own doorstep to improve your health and wellbeing.
Dig-in: free gardening course for adults Mondays 10am – 12noon. Learn about and take part in growing your own vegetables whilst meeting new people.
Dig Art:  10 week free course for families starting this Easter. Tuesday 31 March 1-3pm and Tuesday 7 April 1-3pm then weekly on Saturdays 10am-12noon. Garden fun for all the family making artwork from materials gathered from the garden. Make outdoor sculptures using reflective, tactile, musical and recycled objects.
The health benefits of gardening are well recognised. Gardening can have a positive impact on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
